Signs your interior door needs repair.
Interior doors take a beating. They get slammed, bumped, and opened thousands of times a year. Here are the problems we fix most often.
Door Sticks in Frame
You have to push hard to close it or pull hard to open it. The door has swelled from humidity or the hinges have shifted.
Won't Latch Closed
The door closes but the latch doesn't catch the strike plate. You push it shut and it swings back open.
Hinges Squeaking
Every time the door opens or closes, you hear a loud squeak. The hinge pins are dry or the hinges are worn.
Hole in the Door
A fist, doorknob, or accident left a hole in the door panel. Common on hollow-core doors. It looks bad and weakens the door.
Knob Broken or Loose
The knob wobbles, spins freely, or the latch mechanism inside is broken. The door won't stay closed properly.
Gap Under the Door
Too much space under the door lets light, noise, and drafts through. The door may have been cut too short or the floor has changed.
Why interior doors stick in Florida
Florida humidity is the number one reason interior doors start sticking. Wood absorbs moisture from the air and expands, sometimes just enough to rub against the frame on the latch side or the top. This is especially common in bathrooms and rooms without great air circulation. We see it all the time in older homes and newer construction alike. The fix usually involves planing the door edge, adjusting the hinges, or both. Once we get it right, the door swings freely again. If the sticking comes back seasonally, we can take a little extra material off to account for the worst of the humidity.
How we repair interior doors.
Interior door repair is straightforward when you know what you are looking at. We diagnose the problem, fix it, and test everything before we leave.
Check the Door and Frame
We look at the hinges, latch, strike plate, frame, and the door itself. We figure out exactly why it is not working right.
Adjust or Repair
We tighten hinges, plane the door edge, adjust the strike plate, patch holes, or replace hardware. Whatever the door needs.
Replace Parts if Needed
If the knob, latch, or hinges are beyond repair, we swap them out with quality replacements. We carry common hardware on the truck.
Test Everything
We open and close the door multiple times, check the latch engagement, and make sure the door swings smoothly without sticking or rubbing.
Hollow-core vs. solid-core doors
Most interior doors in Florida homes are hollow-core. They are lightweight, affordable, and work fine for bedrooms and closets. But they dent and puncture easily. If you have a hole in a hollow-core door, we can patch it so it looks smooth and is ready for paint. Solid-core doors are heavier and more durable, but they put more stress on hinges, which means they are more likely to sag over time. We repair both types. Panel doors, flush doors, and everything in between. The approach is different for each type, and we know the right technique for all of them.
Every room in the house
We fix interior doors in every room. Bedroom doors that stick. Bathroom doors that won't latch for privacy. Pantry doors that squeak every time you grab a snack. Home office doors that won't close properly when you need quiet for a call. Even closet doors that have jumped off their tracks. No interior door problem is too small. We treat every job the same whether it is a $75 hinge fix or a $199 hole repair. Call (772) 207-4146 and we will get it taken care of.
